LG Optimus 4X HD P880

Today we shall be looking at the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800. LG has risen to the top in quite a short while with their Optimus series. So it should come as no surprise to anyone that this phone is a really powerful one as well. However, there are a few things I can’t say about it since there isn’t enough information around as to name each and every little aspect of the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800. Still, the show must go on and we shall try to work with what we have. This phone has its ups and downs. One of the most interesting features of this phone is the screen. Its screen has a really wonderful pixel density which makes it as clear as they get. Also, the aspect of the phone isn’t half bad. It has a sleek and simplistic design, with not too many useless details or colors or extra buttons or shapes. I’m glad to see that many people enjoy the “Less is more” view upon life. I’ve also had the pleasure of working with some LG Optimus phones on numerous occasions during my career and can say that they really knew what they were doing when they created the Optimus series, hands down.

But enough with the introductions, let’s start this little review / preview of the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800.

  • Processor : Quad-Core 1.5 GHz
  • RAM : 1 GB
  • Android OS : 4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich
  • Camera : 8 MP
  • Display : 720 x 1280 pixels, 4.7 inches (~312 ppi pixel density)

BODY

We shall begin by taking a look at the body of the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800. As I’ve said a while back, there isn’t that much information about this phone, so I can’t really say too many exact facts about the size or weight of the phone. All I can say is that it is around 8.9 mm thick and that it has touch sensitive controls. Other than that I can’s say anything more since I don’t like to assume things which I can’t be sure whether or not they are true.

DISPLAY

Let us now move on now to the display of this device. The LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 has an HD-IPS LCD capacitive touchscreen, so you know it’s one of the best. That being said, it should come as nobody’s surprise that this phone has also 16 Million colors on its display. The size of the screen is 4.7 inches. Those 4.7 inches of screen are capable of displaying a resolution of approximately 720 x 1280 pixels. Now for the pixel density : the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 has a pixel density of approximately 312 ppi. Here’s the part that I don’t understand : the “geniuses” at Apple kept bragging about how they managed to place 4 pixels instead of one : and even their beloved iPad 3 only has a pixel density of 256 ppi. Than what is there to believe about the devices with a pixel density of over 300 ? Well, I guess that’s something for another time. Moving on, the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 also has multitouch but with no advanced options as being able to run more than two to four fingers on it. You may think me pretentious for saying this but I’ve seen with my very eyes phones that have multitouch capable of sensing two whole hands on them, so that’s where my high expectations are coming from.

SOUND

As far as the sound of this device is concerned, the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 doesn’t have anything to distinguish it from the rabble. Nothing from the audible capabilities of this phone stands out from the crowd. The LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 has no sound enhancement methods whatsoever. So it has all of the basic stuff : vibration and MP3 ringtones as alert types, loudspeaker and a 3.5 mm jack.

MEMORY

Moving on to the memory of the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800. The internal storage space of the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 is around 16 GB of internal storage space. If that isn’t enough for you, you’re welcome to use the MicroSD card to expand your memory by up to 32 GB. On the RAM size this device has the most amount of RAM available : 1 GB.

DATA

The GPRS of the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 is a Class 12 (4+1/3+2/2+3/1+4 slots) which works on 32 ~ 48 KB/s. The LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 also has EDGE in Class 12. The speed of this phone are : HSDPA at around 21 MB/s and HSUPA at around 5.76 MB/s. The WLAN of this phone is a Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA and Wi-Fi hotspot. The LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 also has Bluetooth with A2DP. The USB connection of this phone is done via MicroUSB (MHL) v2.0.

CAMERA

The main camera of the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 is an 8 MP snapper which can photograph at a resolution as big as 3264 x 2448 pixels. The LG Optimus 4X HD P8800’s camera also has a lot of features such as : autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging, face and smile detection, touch focus and image stabilization. The video recorder of the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 is also awesome : it is capable of recording at 1080p full HD with a steady 30 fps. The LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 also has a secondary 1.3 MP camera, but with no notable features of its own.

HARDWARE

The hardware of the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 is extremely powerful. The processor is a Quad-Core 1.5 GHz Cortex-A9. I mean, you don’t really understand how powerful this processor is. There’s a big chance that what you’re reading this article with has a weaker processor than this phone. And as if that wasn’t enough, the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 had to go and get the strongest chipset and GPU available – Nividia Tegra 3. Words cannot express how powerful this phone is and your mind cannot comprehend it.

SOFTWARE

The operating system of this device is Android OS v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. With all that power it would be a shame if it had a weak Operating System, right ? So, perhaps the folks at LG thought it would be a good idea to go all in with the LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 and give it Android OS v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich to make “Beyond Godlike”.

FEATURES

The sensors of this device include : accelerometer, gyroscope, proximity and compass. The messaging of this phone is done via : SMS ( with threaded view ), MMS, E-Mail, Push Mail and even IM. The browser of this phone supports HTML5 and Adobe Flash. The LG Optimus 4X HD P8800 also has GPS with A-GPS support. This device also has Java with Java MIDP emulation. The colors in which this device will come out in are limited to only one : black.
