Boundaries of Phablets Pushed Again

Nowadays, it would seem that the boundaries of smartphone sizes are constantly being moved. Used to be that a 7.0 inch screen device was clearly a Tablet ( the minimum size for a tablet, anyway ). Now, smartphones seem to be getting bigger and bigger. Frankly, I don’t suffer from that one bit as I like to wear baggy pants with plenty of pocket space, but I pity the skinny-jeans wearers.

While the term “pocket-friendly” hasn’t been relevant for most people for quite some time now, whether we want to admit it or not, Samsung is now looking to crate a 7 inch handset to usher in the dawn of a new mobile screen size era – which frankly I find is ridiculous. Personally, I never wanted to believe my jokes, but if we go at it this way we’ll soon end up holding notebooks to our heads to use as phones.

Back to the matter at hand though, the phone ( which I would hardly call a phone ) to be the fist 7 inch monster spawned on this earth will be the Samsung SM-T2558. It was already spotted on a Chinese site known as TENAA, a website which delineates certification approvals for cellphones and various other consumer tech products.

There are rumors suggesting that this tablet that goes under the nickname of phone will be part of the Galaxy series. If those rumors offer any credibility, than this smartphone will be known as the Galaxy Mega 7.0. As far as specifications go, however, it doesn’t have anything too extraordinary ( especially not by Samsung standards ) – a 1.2 GHz Quad-Core processor with 1.5 GB of RAM, an 8 MP main camera and a 2 MP secondary one, Android 4.3 Jelly Bean and a storage space of 8 GB with Micro-SD card slot.

As far as availability goes, it might be sort of limited at the start. For now, rumors only indicate it to run on Chinese 3G / 4G networks known as TD-SCDMA and TD-LTE. We’ll see how this develops later on.
