Toshiba Excite AT200

Today we’ll be taking a look at the Toshiba Excite AT200. The Toshiba Excite AT200 is a pretty good tablet, however it has no support for networks whatsoever. While some Tablets have integrated support for at least a few non-GSM networks, this one has none whatsoever. Now those who have heard about Toshiba products, know that this one is one of them, as you can already tell from the name. The Toshiba Excite AT200 isn’t necessarily the best of the Toshiba Excite series, but I figured you have to start low and then ease your way to the big prize. The rest of the Excite tablets are to come out soon and I’ll review them too if time allows it. Those are much better than this one as far as hardware is concerned since they have a Quad-Core Processor and Tegra 3 technology. However, the Toshiba Excite AT200 is pretty good too and bear in mind that it was the first, the one that started it all.

GENERAL

We’ll begin by taking a look at the more general parts of the Toshiba Excite AT200, aspects such as the supported networks and the announcement and release dates. The Toshiba Excite AT200 has no supported networks, as I’ve already mentioned. It was announced in September 2011 and was released quite a lot time later. The Toshiba Excite AT200 came out a bit later in January 2012.

BODY

Next is the review of the body of the Toshiba Excite AT200. Here you can find information about the size of the Toshiba Excite AT200 and its weight, as well as whether or not it has any marks that would distinguish it from the other tablets as far as aspect goes. The size of the Toshiba Excite AT200  is around 256 x 176 x 7.7 mm. The Toshiba Excite AT200 weighs around 558 grams. The Toshiba Excite AT200 is pretty hard to see from other tablets since it has no marks that would make it stand out. It has no touch-sensitive controls, no nothing. One may even dare say that the Toshiba Excite AT200 is one of the most anonymous tablets around.

DISPLAY

Next is the review of the display of the Toshiba Excite AT200. Here you can find information about the type of screen, the screen size, the screen’s pixel density, the screen resolution and whether or not it has any particularities of screen defense methods installed on it. The screen type of the Toshiba Excite AT200 is an LED-Backlit LCD with a capacitive touchscreen wit approximately 16 million colors. The Toshiba Excite AT200 has a 10.1 inches big screen which can house a resolution of approximately 1280 x 800 pixels and a pixel density of around 149 ppi. The Toshiba Excite AT200 also has Multitouch on it. However, it has no other particularities on it, which is most regret-able since it couldn’t hurt to have those.

SOUND

Next up is the review of the audio output capabilities of the Toshiba Excite AT200. Here you may find information about the alert types, the loudspeaker, the audio jack and whether or not the Toshiba Excite AT200 has any sound enhancements installed on it whatsoever. The Toshiba Excite AT200 has no Alert Types, but then again, Tablets never do have them since it would be totally unnecessary. The Toshiba Excite AT200 has a Loudspeaker with Stereo Speakers. It also has a 3.5 mm audio jack. Apart from the Stereo Speakers installed on it, the Toshiba Excite AT200 has no other particularities or means of audio enhancement.

MEMORY

Next up is the review of the memory of the Toshiba Excite AT200. Here you can find information about the internal storage space and ways of expanding it, as well as the RAM memory. The Toshiba Excite AT200 has 1 GB of RAM, so that’s pretty good. The internal storage space of the Toshiba Excite AT200 varies, the tablet being available in two different models : one with 16 GB of storage and the other with 32 GB. If that still isn’t enough to fit your needs, know that you can use the Micro SD card to upgrade the storage space with up to 32 GB.

DATA CONNECTIVITY

Next up is the review of the data connectivity of the Toshiba Excite AT200. Here you can find information about the GPRS, the EDGE, the Speed and WLAN as well as the Bluetooth and USB connections. The Toshiba Excite AT200 lacks both GPRS and EDGE since it is a tablet with no support for networks whatsoever and a 2G network ( to say the least ) is required to be able to have those two. Same is the case for the connection speed of this device. The Toshiba Excite AT200 has none since that one also depends quite a bit on the network and the Toshiba Excite AT200 supports no networks. The WLAN of the Toshiba Excite AT200 is a Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n, which is pretty good in my opinion, however it could have been better if only it had things like Wi-Fi hotspot and such. The Bluetooth of the Toshiba Excite AT200 is a Bluetooth v2.1 with A2DP and EDR installed on it. The USB connection is pretty weird, it being a Mini USB v2.0 port. I am saying this since most of the USB connections I am accustomed to on Tablets are full grown USB v2.0 ports. Still, that will have to do.

CAMERA

Next up is the review of the camera of the Toshiba Excite AT200. Here you can find information about the main camera, the secondary camera as well as their features and capabilities. The main camera is a 5 MP snapper. This 5 MP camera is capable of photographing at around 2592 x 1944 pixels. The features of the Toshiba Excite AT200’s main camera include and are limited to : autofocus, LED flash and Geo-tagging. The Toshiba Excite AT200’s main camera is capable of filming at around 720p HD. The Toshiba Excite AT200’s secondary frontal camera is a 2 MP snapper with no features or capabilities of its own. However, a 2 MP frontal camera is pretty good considering that frontal cameras never exceed 2 MP since that is the maximum for frontal cameras.

BATTERY LIFE

Next is the review of the battery life of the Toshiba Excite AT200. Here you can find information about the battery type of the Toshiba Excite AT200 and how long it can function since battery life is something really important to Android devices. The Toshiba Excite AT200 has a Standard Li-Ion battery but it doesn’t say how many mAh it has. I have no idea how long it can function in stand-by mode since it isn’t specified but I do know it can work for around 6 hours of talk-time.

HARDWARE

Next up we will review the hardware components of the Toshiba Excite AT200. Here you can find information about the Processor, the Motherboard and the Graphics Card. The Toshiba Excite AT200 is a good table since it has all three of those components. Its processor is a Dual-Core 1.2 GHz processor. The Toshiba Excite AT200 also has a TI OMAP 4430 chipset and a PowerVR SGX540 GPU. In the end, it has a pretty good hardware configuration compared to many other tablets.

SOFTWARE

Next is the review of the software of the Toshiba Excite AT200. Here you can find out about the software version of the Toshiba Excite AT200 and whether or not it can be upgraded. The Toshiba Excite AT200 comes with Android OS v3.2 Honeycomb installed on it. Sadly, it cannot be upgraded to Android OS v4.0 Ice Cream Sandwich. Why it cannot be upgraded is beyond me considering that it can support the said version of the OS since it is strong enough to handle it.

FEATURES

Finally, last but not least, we’ll review the more random features and capabilities of the Toshiba Excite AT200. The Toshiba Excite AT200 has the following sensors : Accelerometer, Gyroscope and Compass. The Toshiba Excite AT200’s messaging can be done only via : E-Mail, Push Mail, IM and RSS. Also, the Toshiba Excite AT200’s browser uses HTML and has integrated support for Adobe Flash. The Toshiba Excite AT200 has no radio, however that can be fixed via downloading some Radio apps from the internet. This tablet also has GPS with A-GPS integrated support. Also, the Toshiba Excite AT200 has Java via Java MIDP emulation. The Toshiba Excite AT200 is only available in the color Black.

Here is a brief list of what this tablet can do :

  • HDMI port
  • MP3/WAV/WMA/eAAC+ player
  • MP4/H.264/H.263/WMV player
  • Organizer
  • Document viewer
  • Photo editor
  • Voice memo
  • Predictive text input
