Hisense X1 – Next Phablet on the Line

Recently at CES 2014 a new phablet ( or phone and tablet hybrid ) has been announced and it’s soon making its way to China and afterwards to the US. Frankly, I’m a bit jealous since it seems to be a great device. However, if you’re not a huge fan of a large phone, you may as well turn back now as this is by all forms and sizes a tablet. A fitting joke would be “If ever you’ve been sad that you can’t make calls with a Nexus 7, then boy do I have something for you”.

While this device may be HUGE, there are some neat parts hidden inside it ( things like a Snapdragon 800 chipset ). It also has some neat features like a 13 MP camera, Androi OS v4.4 KitKat and an immense 3900 mAh battery ( and while it’s massive and quite powerful, I’m positive that the screen will easily suck up most of the power of that battery ). A main downside for this phone, to whoever might be interested in that, is the fact that it doesn’t have LTE, but it does have HSPA+, so not all is lost.

The phone seems to be pretty decent, sporting a wide array of viewing angles for its gargantuan screen. The chipset also makes sure the user experience is without too many hiccups and makes sure that everything runs nice and smooth. While the original demo model at CES was sporting Android OS v4.3 Jelly Bean, the company assures users that the final product will be shipping out with 4.4 KitKat.

The exterior of the phone isn’t of the highest quality as the device seems to be covered in plastic ( clearly related to the budget of construction AND to the fact that most of the Hisense products are covered with the same lower-cost material ). However, the handling of it is as comfortable as it can, especially if you count the giant size of the device ( which, similarly to Xperia’s Z Ultra, isn’t such a big problem if you have large hands ).

The US will be getting this device somewhere in late Q2 ( for the SIM-free version ). There is talk, however, that Hisense is in negotiations with 2 carriers, so you may want to see what’s what – maybe you’ll get a bit of a discount for this monster.
