LG Marquee LS855

Today we shall be reviewing the LG Marquee LS855. This phone goes under many different names, It is known as the LG Marquee for Sprint and also as the LG Majestic for US Cellular. This is not a regular GSM phone since it runs with different networks. It won’t work with regular GSM networks world-wide, it only supports CDMA networks.

Well enough with the introductions, let us begin this little review of the LG Marquee LS855.

GENERAL

We shall begin by taking a look at the more general aspects of the LG Marquee LS855. You can expect to find information here about the supported networks, the announcement and the release date. The LG Marquee LS855 supports both 2G and 3G networks. As I’ve mentioned before they are both CDMA and they are as following : CDMA 800 / 1900 as the 2G ones and CDMA 2000 1xEV-DO as the 3G one. The LG Marquee LS855 was announced in September 2011. It was released shortly after in October 2011. To be frank it isn’t all that powerful for the time it came out, but you’ll see that for yourself soon enough.

BODY

Following up is a brief preview of the aspect related points of the LG Marquee LS855. You may find information here about the dimensions, the weight and whether or not the device has any “birthmarks” that would make it stand out from a crowd. The LG Marquee LS855 is around 122 x 64 x 9 mm big. It weighs somewhere around 112 grams. The device also has Touch Sensitive Controls. Other than that I can’t say too much about it.

DISPLAY

The pixel density of this device is approximately 233 ppi. The LG Marquee LS855 also has a Corning Gorilla Glass display as means of protection. Also, this device has Optimus UI and Gesture UI installed on it should you choose to activate either of them.

SOUND

The LG Marquee LS855 is pretty standard on this part since it has no sound enhancements whatsoever installed on it. The alert types of the LG Marquee LS855 are Vibration, MP3 and WAV ringtones. The LG Marquee LS855 also has a Loudspeaker and a 3.5 mm jack.

MEMORY

This part of the review shall cover the memory of the LG Marquee LS855. The LG Marquee LS855 comes with 4 GB of internal storage space and an included 2 GB Micro SD card upon purchasing it. If you require more you know the drill, the Micro SD card slot will work with anything as long as it doesn’t exceed 32 GB. The RAM memory of the LG Marquee LS855 is 512 MB, which is quite decent in my opinion. Far from the best, but they can’t all be great, can they ?

DATA CONNECTION

This part of the review shall cover the data connectivity of the LG Marquee LS855. You can expect to find info about the GPRS and EDGE, the Speed and WLAN and the Bluetooth and USB connections. This being a CDMA phone, it doesn’t have either GPRS or EDGE and its speed is a Rev. A up to 3.1 MB/s. The WLAN of the LG Marquee LS855 is Wi-Fi 802.11 b/g/n with DLNA and Wi-Fi hotspot. The Bluetooth of the LG Marquee LS855 is a Bluetooth v3.0 with A2DP.  The connection between this device and the PC can be done via its Micro USB v2.0 port.

CAMERA

This part of the review shall cover the camera of the LG Marquee LS855. You can expect to find details about the main and secondary camera of the device as well as their features and capabilities. The main camera of the LG Marquee LS855 is a 5 MP snapper able of photographing at around 2592 x 1944 pixels. The features of the main camera are as following : autofocus, LED flash, geo-tagging and face and smile detection. The main camera is capable of recording video at around 720p HD with a steady 30 frames per second. The LG Marquee LS855 also has a secondary 2 MP frontal camera, however this one has no features to talk about.

BATTERY LIFE

Following up is a brief look at the battery of the LG Marquee LS855, since battery life is usually a great problem among powerful devices ( or any device, come to think of it ). You can find details here about the type of battery and the time it can function. The battery of the LG Marquee LS855 is a Standard Li-Ion 1500 mAh battery. I have no idea how long it can function in stand-by mode since my sources are somewhat incomplete. I do know however that it can function for around 6 hours and 30 minutes of talk time.

HARDWARE

Next we’re going to take a look at the hardware of the LG Marquee LS855, mainly the three great components : the processor, the mother board and the graphics card. This device however only has one of the three, which is more than a little disappointing. The LG Marquee LS855 only has a Single-Core 1 GHz processor and nothing more.

SOFTWARE

Moving on to the software of the LG Marquee LS855, In this part we shall see what version of OS the LG Marquee LS855 has an whether or not it can be upgraded to a future version. The LG Marquee LS855 comes with Android OS v2.3 Gingerbread installed on it. It can’t be officially updated to Ice Cream Sandwich and I doubt it can even handle it with its weak hardware. Still, stranger things have happened. Feel free to install unofficial updates, but the phone may not run so good with them. It’s recommended to avoid unofficial updates.

FEATURES

Here in this final part of the review we shall see the more random features and capabilities of the LG Marquee LS855. The sensors of the LG Marquee LS855 are as following : Accelerometer, Proximity and Compass. The messaging on this phone can be done via : SMS ( with threaded view ), MMS, E-Mail, Push Mail and IM. The browser of the LG Marquee LS855 uses HTML and has integrated Adobe Flash. The LG Marquee LS855 also has Stereo FM radio with RDS. The LG Marquee LS855 also has a GPS with A-GPS support and Java via Java MIDP emulation. The only color available for the LG Marquee LS855 is Black.
